hamptonslaura says: I was captivated almost immediately. It is well written and believable for the most part. The story seems to skip a large block of time and detail toward the end as if the book was getting too long and therefore edited out. It portrays the enduring love between the main characters and how hard they had to work to make a life in America as Italian immigrants in the early 20th century. It was rather disappointing in that the story did not give details of potential conflicts in t...he everyday lives after the marriage of the main characters. I did love the book though. skula says: I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The early portion describes the life of the characters in Italy in the late 1800s. Then the main characters migrate to the US and it chronicals the lives of the main characters and many other of the immigrants and how the coped or did not cope with the huge change in their lives. All of the characters were realistic and much detail was given into the development of their characters. I learned about rural Italy and life in the states at a time where their were few work rules and the living was difficult.MoreLessRead More Read Less
I just think people should know that every book I've read on here has the same problem of having the right side of the page cut into. It's starting to make it not worth reading some books are worse than others also

This book drags on forever. I wanted to like it but my god, it is like 500 pages of someone's whole autobiography. I was waiting for the end. Don't recommend it unless you like really long, pointless books.
