“In a closet where snow clothes were kept. A pair of snow pants had slipped off a hanger. Some kind of stiff nylon. They had hit the floor like spears, and then half crumpled and half stayed rigid, like wobbly legs, like a cartoon picture of a guy who just received a nasty shock. They had toppled backward and had ended up half propped in the corner. Reacher moved them, purely out of habit, and behind them he found a pair of women’s snow boots. A technical product, with hooks and loops. A woman’s... size six. Which was small. He said, “Boots in the closet is a thing, right? She spent quality time here.” “If it was her. Could have been anybody.” “I agree. But it’s evidence a guy two separate people described as a loner living alone actually had a companion in his house. Which should have tilted the investigation a little, when such a guy shows up dead. Maybe we can forgive the sheriff. He had a preconceived notion.MoreLessRead More Read Less
Excellent read. Provides insight into the secret horrors that follow many returning wounded soldiers.

VERY hard to believ that a 90 lb 5' tall girl would be able to complete strenuous basic training, and even in the field carry a 60 lb rucsack or worse, a wounded comrade anywhere no matter how agile or athletic she might be. I have much experience in boxing training and other contact sports and I say it is beyond her capacity. The weight of the helmet alone, might develop her neck muscles but....

This brilliant, "absolutely best at everything " 90 lb midget is the most unreaL aspect of this book. And, it has occurred to me that in most or all of Child's books a major character is always a very tiny woman in a very responsible position, associated with a bery large man. Nearly the men are very large, generally well over 6', even though the average for US men is about 5'9" or a little less.
How is it that the rapid City Police Lieutenant assigns a 4'11" property detective to a major drug assignment. She is both not suited physically nor by training. She'd have to have a HIGH cushion just to be able to see over her driving wheel in the police car, for goodness sake. This book already has 3- 90 lb Schwartzeneggers.

Loved it as per normal, I have enjoyed all the Jack Reacher books. Tom Cruise never ,not the ideal painted in the books !!!!

I agree that Tom Cruise was not a good choice. Needed a much bigger man to play Jack. The books are great.
