rabbritt says: after all the SNAFUS the Brits, Americans and allied forces went thru from the invasion into N. Africa and battling across Europe, this final volume wraps up the bloody and costly battles to Berlin. It's amazing that we managed to beat the Germans considering they had better weapons, better leadership (for much of the war), and their soldiers were war-hardened by the time we finally entered to help save Britain and beyond. All three of Atkinson's books are so well written and res...earched that I had a hard time putting them down. Hope says: The final volume of Atkinson's epic trilogy World War II and the American effort to defeat Hitler and the Nazi empire. An exhaustive and atr times exhausting read. Atkinson is a deft writer and an imcomparable researcher. He is capable of presenting the big picture but never neglects the telling detail.I read this 600 plus book while flying extensively for business and this let me wade through the detail in very short order. Hovwever you can also read this over the long haul as Atkinson smartly delineates his story. This volume carries the epic horror of World War II without the romance but demonstrates the energy and effort of military leaders and individual soldiers to end the conflict victorously.MoreLessRead More Read Less
