mihaelach says: I loved Ann Aguirre's Sirantha Jax series so I was excited to find the Dred Chronicles, set in the same universe as the Sirantha Jax series. This book definitely lived up to the high standards set by Sirantha Jax. The main character, Dred, is a complicated, fascinating character. A serial killer of serial killers, Dred has ended up in Perdition, a prison ship where the lost cases were dumped by the system. Within the confines of the prison ship, anything goes and Dred has clawed h...er way to the top, ruling a section of the ship as the Dread Queen. Into this mix comes Jael, the genetically modified character from the Sirantha Jax series. Of course, there is a romantic vibe between Dred and Jael but Ann Aguirre continues to delight in writing romantic plots that are anything but predictable or generic and this book is no exception. The characters in this book are smart, fierce, complicated and powerful and reading how they respond to the challenges of surviving in a (literal) con-eat-con world is great fun. I'm really excited to see how this series will unfold. Aguirre excels at subverting the reader's expectations and I have high hopes that future books will more than live up to the high standards set by the Sirantha Jax series. At some point I imagine that, Ocean's Eleven style, our band of brilliant misfits will find their way out of the prison ship and then the Universe better watch out! I can't wait to read it! susmitha says: Awesome action and I loved the insight into the inmates lives. Everyone has a story and a code that they live by..... sometimes its a totally messed up code but whatever. Dred is a badass leader and I like how ruthless she can be and loved how its an armor that she puts on. She's smart and even in prison she stacks her resources and makes living the best she can. Taking risks is a necessity as is killing but its functional instead of being reckless. I can't wait to see where the rest of this series goes!MoreLessRead More Read Less
