celia says: It would be easy to write this off as a Percy Jackson wanna-be (and there are a lot of similarities to The Lightning Thief) but I actually like this more than Riordan's book.I do wish that Laurie (the main female character) had a stronger part- she's no damsel in distress, but she does tend to fade into the background during the fight scenes. And when she finally develops a superpower of her own, its basically the power to run away. But overall, interesting characters and plenty of ex...citement make this story a diverting, enjoyable summer read. sonu says: "The runes have spoken. We have our champion ... Matthew Thorsen."When Matt hears the words he can't believe them. He's Thor's champion destined to fight trolls, monstrous wolves, and giant serpents..or the world will ends? He's only thirteen. Even though Matt is a modern day descendant of Thor Norse god of thunder and lightning, he has lived always lived a normal life. In fact all people in the small town of Blackwell, South Dakota are direct descendants of either Thor or Loki including his classmates Fen and Laurie Brekke. No big deal. But now the end of the entire world is coming and its up to the champions of the Norse gods to fight in the gods places since the gods died. Matt, Fen, and Laurie's lives will never be the same as they race to put together an unstoppable team, find Thor's hammer, and shield, and prevent the end of the world.Matt Thorsen is a loyal and brave champion with a sense of what's suppose to happen and what's not suppose to happen like the myths. He is the descendant of the might Thor Norse god of thunder, lightning, the storms, and the common man. He is the son of Paul and Patricia Thorsen. His father is the sheriff of Blackwell. He is a well know person known by everyone in Blackwell. After being chosen as Thor's champion he goes off to a fair that he had been looking forwards to and started off on his journey to find the other descendants of the North, find Thor's hammer and shield and prevent Ragnarok.Matt's problem throughout Loki's Wolves is that he is afraid that he will screw up being the champion of Thor because he has made many mistakes in his normal life and is afraid he will mess up on his mission to save the world.Matt's emotions changed throughout Loki's Wolves. He was scared at first when he found out he was the champion of Thor, then throughout the novel his emotions changed from being scared to being brave and courageous and he was angry near the end when he found out that the shield he obtains was stolen by Fen and he didn't tell Matt that he stole it and gave it to the Raiders. The relationship between Matt, Fen, Laurie, and the other descendants was that they are all good friends once they all trust each other.Near the end of Loki's Wolves the descendants journey to stop Ragnarok grinds to a halt because they need to go to Hel to retrieve their friend Baldwin because he died. The genre of Loki's Wolves is fiction and fantasy.Loki's Wolves is the first book in the Blackwell Pages series written by K.L. Armstrong and M. A. Marr.My opinion of Loki's Wolves was that it was a great book for me to read since i love mythology and this book is a modern day Norse mythology series.I read Loki's Wolves by reading a hard cover copy of the book. The range of feelings that I felt when I read Loki's Wolves were joy, excitement, sadness, surprise, and betrayal. The theme of Loki's Wolves is about going on an adventure and doing this adventure together with your friends.I would recommend this book for children, teens, adults, and any person who loves mythology.K.L. Armstrong and M.A. Marr have been friends for several years and they found each other talking about mythology and monsters for hours. One morning they found out that "M.A.’s second last name is Norwegian (the similarity between that name and “Midgard Serpent” is totally coincidental), and K.L. likes to tackle creatures in video games when not writing (and sometimes when she’s supposed to be writing)". Loki's Wolves is a thrilling adrenaline run story that is filled with larger than life legends, gripping battles, and an amazing cast of characters who bring the Norse myths to life. I would recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of mythology. May the champions of the Norse Gods prevail in their quest to stop Ragnarok and save the world. MoreLessRead More Read Less
Rowan: I had found the sequel to this book and had been enjoying it, but once I found the first book here, I dropped everything I was doing to check this one out. People knowledgeable and ignorant of Norse myth alike will both enjoy this book. The myths tie in heavily to the story, but you're never exactly sure how until it unfolds right there on the page. Really hard book to put down. I finished it in two days.

I agree that Loki's Wolves didn't have a wonderous hook, but I liked both of them equally. Rick Rordian wrote other series based on Egyptian, Greek, and Roman Myths.
