lolly says: This story is incredible! I actually read the Young Adult Edition. I don't know how it differs from the original but it's a must have for any teen or pre-teen library. Malala is only eleven years old when she starts advocating for girls education in Pakistan. It was interesting to read about how the Taliban grew and gained support through propoganda and religious extremism, all from Malala's point of view. She stays positive and brave through the whole experience, never backing down f...rom her desire that everyone should have the right to an education. KayleeM says: The novel revolves around the life of civilians under Talibanisation in Swat valley and covers other geographical regions as well. It has very well buried in the minds of the readers that how human ignorance can result in catastrophic after effects. According to me, one of the reasons that made people vulnerable in Swat valley was the inadequacy of education and on top of that people in the valley overlooked the relevance of education. Taliban influenced people in the name of God by interpreting Quran in a fraudulant way. And this happened because people could not read and write and therefore had never read Quran themselves, and as a result easily accepted the interpretations of others. This gave Taliban an edge to control people out there. Not only this, the illiteracy is the main reason for the political instability in Pakistan. More than fifty million adults are uneducated in the country, out of which thirty two million are women. Not only people in Pakistan but every human on earth should understand that no religion has ever preached to abstain knowledge. Therefore right to education i.e. to seek knowledge is the fundamental right of every human on earth. It was sentimental to see the terrorised world of people in Swat valley through the beautiful eyes of a girl who spoke for her rights when everyone around her chose to remain silent. While reading this book, I FELT SO CLOSE TO MALALA YET SO FAR. So near to people devoid of their fundamental rights, yet so far from having the courage to do something for them.MoreLessRead More Read Less
