anoosh says: Okay What did I just read? It is almost the same as the first book. Sex, sex and more sex! What changed was that Jesse's crazy behaviour went up a notch (if that is possible). Here we try to find out what makes Jesse tick which I would have liked to know but the sex got in the way literately. What is Ava thinking agreeing to marry this man? Her life is over as she knew it but wait .... has that not happened already?I don't know there was a little saving grace (just a little) when we... get to read Jesse's POV. He tries to make us understand that he is weak and pathetic when it comes to Ava. I did not like this 'I will die if you leave me' I was not feeling it but in the end I think he used it to manipulate Ava to stay. There was no plot to sink into just sex. I am tired! ScarZ says: 3 "Whipping" StarsI have to be honest and this was a 2 star read for me until the whipping scene. That shocked me (and weirdly endeared me) to this book. It was the first time in this series that I felt actual emotion or connection between Ava and Jesse. And even though that bonus scene at the end wasn't actually part of the story, that also helped me actually kind of like Jesse. Hearing his pov went a long way in helping me understand him in a way, that even after two books, I haven't been able to do. That said, for the majority of the book I felt like the story was going in circles. It wasn't all that different from book 1 and neither of their behavior changed much. I got tired of being yelled at. Ava and Jesse were constantly yelling at each other. It was exhausting. I also cringed every time Jesse said he wanted to "make friends". It skeeved me out and reminded me of the good touch/bad touch lesson we got in elementary school about the kind of things men say to get you into their windowless van along with pet my puppy and have some candy. I still can't stand when he goes all alpha on Ava. Don't get me wrong, I love a strong alpha male character but Jesse isn't strong. For one his personality is completely different when he's around Ava than when he's around other people. He bosses her around and not in a good way. I hate the countdown for her "punishment" as it reminds me of an adult reprimanding a child. Finally it drives me absolutely batty when he tells her to watch her mouth. Excuse me while I scream obscenities just because I was told not to. I so want to like Jesse but after two books I still don't know much about him. Towards the end he started opening up and when he finally did I got a glimpse of a book boyfriend I could like.MoreLessRead More Read Less
